Exception queues that matter
An unbroken amber list is not diligence. It is a failure to decide. Close teams using a financial auditing app for revenue recognition checks need a triage model that admits some flags will wait.
Three buckets, not fifty statuses
We coach learners to sort into: investigate now (material or unusual pattern), monitor (known residual, documented), and noise (filter defect). Everything else is theatre.
Materiality here is not only quantitative. A small amount tied to a new go-to-market motion may deserve more attention than a large, well-understood shipping lag.
Owner per bucket
Assign a named owner for “investigate now” items before the run starts. Queues without owners become shared anxiety. In Module 3 of Audit Studio, peer groups practice fifteen-minute stand-ups that only discuss the first bucket.
Retire filters aggressively
If a rule has produced only false positives for two consecutive periods, suspend it with a dated note. Checkers accumulate folklore; folklore consumes the hours you need for real anomalies.
